Wasn't that fun?

So yesterday I had my very first quilt class at my local Sew N Serge store. It was great as only Fiona and myself had registered for the class so we got Jean, the teacher's, undivided attention, well divided only two ways anyway.

Neither of us have ever done any quilting before, well except that last week I dabbled with a small pinreel design for a throw cushion, but that wasn't 'real' quilting, done 'proper like' I mean!

Jean was very patient and showed us the way to straighten up the fabric… Continue

Click here to see if there is anyone here that you know!

A youngster of seventy four
was thinking her day was a bore
to shake off the dust
a party's a must
I'll invite all the gals here and more

So off she went to the stitch chat
With her best bib 'n tucker and hat
she said I'm the one
who's going to have fun
I'm gonna be the coolest cool cat

Now what do we have here to drink
a margarita with a lime slice I think
with a dash of rim salt
that will give us a jolt
she said with the cheekiest wink

But the gig needs a little more spice
a Chippendale… Continue

Oh no, it finally got me!

Well folks, I've been successfully evading quilting for a long time now and every time you quilty lot try to reel me in I've slipped off the hook, although, I have to say that since joining www.stitchchat.com the lure has been getting stronger and stronger.

This morning I was happily enjoying myself at my local sewing store's sewing club and what was the mini project demo today? Only a pinreel quilt block! Waaaggghhh! no escape route, too many stitchers blocking the way!

So bam! you finally go… Continue

Who needs all those Bells and Whistles?

Where is the beep? Oh that's right, I'm on my old "regular" machine and it doesn't beep!

I remember thinking, (as I was watching the demonstration of the Singer Futura by Ruth, the Singer lady, while she was pointing out to me all the 'bells and whistles' of the machine) who needs all those fancy bits?

What needlewoman can't thread a needle, or know when the thread has broken, or the bobbin has run out?

Err, well, it appears - me!

Today was the first time in months that I have used my old re… Continue

New Sewing Room - at last!

My dear husband has unwittingly made the decision for me, I have finally decided that I need a dedicated sewing room.

Until now I've always had my sewing machine in the spare bedroom and pulled out the stuff I need when I've needed it. Being a spare bedroom the biggest flat surface is, of course, the bed! So it gets covered with my spreading out the thread boxes, fabric, etc. until the duvet is almost lost completely.

So what changed? Last weekend DH hurt his back and has taken himself off to… Continue

Hi Margaret. Thanks for your input and comments. Trust me to have tried the metallic cottton on my first attempts. I found a short cut to resolve the knotting affect. I have an overlocker and I place my metallic thread on it and use the guide arm and then feed it over to my embroidery machine. It works like a dream!!!
